If you live and work in England you may be entitled to 30 hours funded childcare support from the term after your child turns 9 months old, until they start school.
You can usually get funded childcare for working parents if you (and your partner, if you have one) are:
The amount of funded childcare you can get depends on:
If you are not eligible for the working parent offer you will still receive the 15 hour entitlement for all 3 and 4 year olds from the term after your child turns 3 until they start school, irrespective of your income level, benefit status, or family circumstances.
If you or your child receive some additional forms of support, you may be eligible for 15 hours early learning for 2 year olds (please see the 2 year old funding tab for more information) under a separate scheme.
Over the next 3 months you and your partner (if you have one) must each expect to earn at least:
This is equivalent to the National Minimum Wage or Living Wage for 16 hours a week, on average.
You can earn up to £100,000 adjusted net income per year and be eligible. If you or your partner have an expected adjusted net income over £100,000 in the current tax year, you will not be eligible.
You can use an average of how much you expect to earn over the current tax year if:
If you have a partner who lives with you, they must also earn between these two amounts.
If you’re self-employed and started your business less than 12 months ago, you can earn less and still be eligible for funded childcare for working parents.
If you have more than one job, you can use your total earnings to work out if you meet the threshold. This includes:
If you’re both employed and self-employed, you can use just your self-employment income if this would make you eligible. For example, if you expect your average self-employed earnings over the tax year to be more than you’ll get over the next 3 months as an employee.
Certain types of income will not count towards the minimum amount you must earn to be eligible. These include:
Your child can start in their childcare place the term after they are eligible and have received a valid eligibility code, whichever is later. Term start dates are
1st September,
1st January,
1st April.
To keep your 30 hours childcare place you need to check your details are up to date every 3 months.

What isn't covered?
These childcare offers are not intended to cover the costs of meals, other consumables (such as nappies or sun cream), additional hours or additional activities (such as trips). Providers may charge a fee for these additions. If you choose to pay for these it is an arrangement between you and the childcare provider. However, you must not be required to pay any fee as a condition of taking up a 30 hours place.
At Earlybirds we do not charge a consumables rate. We do charge for meals at £1.00 per session attending.
At Earlybirds We do offer free government places for the 15 & 30 hours funding for 3 and 4 year olds.
15 hour funding is automatic for all 3 and 4 years olds and this is taken as part of the school hours in Creswell C of E Infants and Nursery School if you intend your child going through this school.
For more information please use the Childcare Choices action button below.
Yes there is a difference. 30 hours is for working parents that meet the criteria above and you will need to apply for the additional hours through the child care choices web page. All children are automatically eligible for the 15 universal hours and you do not need to apply for them.
If you don't have access to the internet you can call the childcare service helpline on 0300 123 4097 and make your application over the phone.
Yes you can split your funded entitlement between different providers but you can only use 2 different providers in 1 day. This is to help provide good continuity of care for your child. Please remember that it is your responsibility to renew your claim each term through the government gateway to keep your child hours valid.
